Things To Do

The beaches on the Costa de la Luz are amongst the best in Europe - huge stretches of golden sand that are virtually deserted during the week. You can relax and unwind at the nearest beach of El Palmar which is a 10 minute drive.

Vejer has a number of fiestas and ferias throughout the year including Semana Santa (Easter) with processions and the bull run on Easter Sunday, the Spring Feria in April, the Fiesta of San Juan in June and the August Feria which ends two weeks of music in the town with a marvellous fireworks display.

For adventurous days out there is kite surfing in Tarifa, surfing at El Palmar, Southern Spains best surf  beach or scuba diving just off the coast of Barbate. Visit Bolonia with the amazing Roman ruins and fish restaurants dotted along the beach. You can trek through the Alcornocales, Natural Park , Europes biggest Oak forest with fresh water lakes and a 1000m peak for the more energetic. Spend a day in Jerez and visit the School of Equestrian Arts and watch the horses training to dance in their world famous exhibitions then enjoy a tour and sherry tasting at one of the Bodegas. Meander around the old city of Cádiz and enjoy its outstanding fish market, vibrant street life and stunning architecture. Enjoy a tour and sherry sampling at the Sherry Bodegas in Jerez or stop at Cadiz and enjoy its outstanding fish market , vibrant street life and stunning architecture. For nature lovers there are trips from Tarifa and Gibraltar to see the dolphins and whales in the Straits of Gibraltar and observe them in their natural environment, bird-watching all along the coast, horse-riding on the beach and a number of different national parks to visit. A trip to Africa is just an hour away so why not pop over to Tangier for the day and discover the delights of the Medina.

Closer to home there is plenty of culture, history and sightseeing in Medina Sidonia, Vejer and Alcala de los Gazules with local bird watching, from coastal to wetlands & raptors in the nearby highlands. Eagles can regularly be seen cruising the thermals in Vejer and from the terraces Las Marravillas. There are two world class golf courses within 20 minutes of Las Marravillas at Dehesa Montenmedio, south of Vejer and Fairplay in Benalup - Casas Viejas.

Restaurant

There is a wonderful local restaurant within a short walk from the house.  Restaurante Patria   is an excellent addition to Patria and makes life even easier when staying at Las Maravillas.

Throughout the local area there is a wide range of good restaurants from fresh fish near the beaches, Moroccan in Vejer and a great pizzeria in La Muela.
